about me
Some of my earliest memories are of visiting my great grandmother, the godmother of DIY, and playing with her leftover yarn stash while she, my mother, and my grandma talked and crocheted. I was too young to learn at the time, so I amused myself by playing with color combinations. When I got a little older my mom taught me the basic stitches, and how to put them together to make simple things, like potholders and scarves.
Over the years I picked up a hook here and there, but it wasn't until I injured my arm in my late 20's that I really started to learn the craft. I spent 18 months alternating between surgeries and physical therapy, not sure if I would ever regain full control of my right hand. By crocheting I was able to rebuild my atrophied muscles, and stave off the boredom of workers comp.
I've spent the past ten years experimenting and honing my skills. The better I got with traditional crochet methods, the more I wanted to ignore them and do things "my way." Surprisingly, many of my experiments had amazing results! I realized that I could use a hook and yarn much like a brush and paint, which gave me greater freedom than the structure and order of form crochet. Now, anything is possible!
I am inspired by the world around me. It's hard not to look at something without seeing how it could be translated into crochet.
